Gathering of Intelligence
Casting a wide net
CGIT believes that the collection and analysis of information drives investigations. When bits and pieces of information rise to the level of evidence admissible in court, they validate whether a belief or proposition is true.
CGIT believes that when responding to crimes of violence, we must cast as wide a net as possible to ensure the comprehensive collection of information.
Studies have shown that incidents of urban gunfire are often under-reported to police. Even when it is reported, how sound travels can trick the caller into sending the police to the wrong location. Why is this important to understand? Because if the police don’t know about an incident involving unlawful gunfire they can’t respond, investigate, or collect information which may also be evidence.
The crime scene is the first place which must be tagged. It can be a robust source of information, evidence and crime gun intelligence. There may be witnesses and physical evidence, such as fired cartridge cases and projectiles, to be found there. Each can add great value in terms of the story they may hold and their value in connecting crimes, guns, and suspects.
The FireFLY system not only calls the cops when nobody else does, it sends them to the correct location where the comprehensive collection of information must begin.
The more information that is collected, the more bits of intelligence and evidence can be pieced together to decipher the puzzle of who did what and why. The answers to these questions are critical when seeking justice for the victims of gun related violence, resolution for their loved ones, and peace for their neighbors.
