Investigation: Gathering of Intelligence
Casting a Wide Net
CGIT believes that the collection and analysis of information drives investigations. Bits and pieces of information become evidence admissible in court and validate whether a belief or proposition is true.
When responding to crimes of violence, CGIT emphasizes the need to cast as wide a net as possible to ensure a comprehensive collection of information. Studies have shown that incidents of urban gunfire are often under-reported to police. Even when reported, sound travel can mislead callers into directing police to the wrong location. Understanding this is crucial because without knowledge of an incident involving unlawful gunfire, police cannot respond, investigate, or collect evidence.
The crime scene is the first critical area that must be tagged, serving as a robust source of information, evidence, and crime gun intelligence. Witnesses and physical evidence, such as fired cartridge cases and projectiles, can provide valuable insights, connecting crimes, guns, and suspects. The FireFLY LE III system not only alerts the police when other systems fail but also directs them to the correct location where comprehensive information collection begins.
The more information collected, the more intelligence and evidence can be pieced together to decipher the puzzle of who did what and why. These answers are critical for seeking justice for gun violence victims, providing resolution for their loved ones, and ensuring peace for their communities.
Criminal Investigations
Accurate, Cost-effective and Sustainable
FireFLY LE III is an advanced, transportable wide-area outdoor gunshot detection technology that supports evidence/intelligence-led law enforcement efforts to disrupt cycles of violence involving the criminal use of firearms.
Designed to assist law enforcement in targeting “hot-spots” of gun violence in vulnerable communities, FireFLY LE III technology is accurate, cost-effective, and sustainable. It pinpoints the location of shooting events within a defined area in real time. As law enforcement responds to more crime scenes, more evidence and information will be collected. More fired cartridge cases will be submitted for processing through the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN) promptly. The greater the number of exhibits processed through NIBIN, the higher the potential for generating actionable crime gun intelligence by linking crimes, guns, and suspects.
CGIT’s primary goal is to provide law enforcement with a transportable gunshot detection technology that supports timely, evidence/intelligence-led policing efforts. When used with a crime gun intelligence methodology based on current best practices, this technology equips police with the tools needed to identify and stop criminal “trigger pullers” before they cause further harm, thereby preventing more shootings and victims.
This innovative transportable gunshot detection technology is designed to assist law enforcement in focusing resources to target the “hot-spots” of gun violence within our country’s most vulnerable communities. MORE…
