Affordable Gunshot Detection Technology

A 2013 report by the Urban Institute titled The Hospital Costs of Firearm Assaults revealed that hospital costs for victims of firearm assaults in the U.S. totaled just under $630 million, with taxpayers bearing the majority of these costs. Professor Jens Ludwig, Director of the University of Chicago’s Crime Lab, noted that reducing the costs of violent crime can be achieved through targeted crime-fighting initiatives, such as deploying additional police resources in high-crime neighborhoods or addressing high-cost crime problems like gang and gun violence.

Gunshot Detection Technology aligns with Professor Jen Ludwig’s observations by targeting costly gun-related crimes and deploying police resources to precise locations in real-time. However, existing static gunshot detection systems are often prohibitively expensive, preventing many law enforcement agencies from accessing this crucial technology.

The FireFLY LE III solution offers a cost-effective alternative that meets the goals of both Professor Ludwig and law enforcement agencies. Benefits include:

  • Ease and Speed of Deployment
The technology is designed for rapid and straightforward installation.
  • Comprehensive Information Collection
Ensures thorough gathering of evidence and intelligence.
  • Disruption of Shooting Cycles
    Helps prevent ongoing violence.
  • Generation of crime gun intelligence
Links crimes, guns, and suspects effectively.

This innovative transportable gunshot detection technology is designed to assist law enforcement in focusing resources to target the “hot-spots” of gun violence within our country’s most vulnerable communities. MORE…

Smarter Design

Reducing the Cost of Ownership

Crime Gun Intelligence Technologies (CGIT) and its partners are dedicated to lowering the cost of ownership for customers while continuously improving technology through smart design.

    • Less Costly Installation
The FireFLY sensors simplify installation, allowing police technicians to mount them on light/power poles in about 10 minutes. Once powered on, the sensors automatically calibrate, geolocate, and connect to the network, eliminating the need for expensive technician dispatches.
    • Less Costly Re-deployments
The transportable nature of FireFLY sensors allows for easy dismounting, repositioning, and powering on by police technicians to monitor new "hot spots" of violent crime.
    • Less Costly Upgrade Process
System upgrades are conducted electronically through remote transmission, avoiding the need for technicians to travel, which reduces the overall cost of ownership.
    • Less Costly Operation
Unlike some providers who offer costly services to assess and confirm gunfire alerts, the FireFLY system trains onboard police personnel to perform this task, further reducing expenses.
